AI recruitment tools are becoming increasingly prevalent in the corporate world with businesses hoping that these tools will eradicate any biases during the hiring process. However, some experts are now saying that these tools may actually be inaccurately screening some of the most highly qualified candidates out of the process.
Yup, you read that right. As per a report (that we’ve referred to down below in this newsletter) [scroll down], some AI tools may actually be keeping the qualified candidates out.
AI recruitment technology uses body language analysis, vocal assessments, gamified tests and CV scanners, which can inadvertently lead to qualified candidates being cut from the race. For example, AI software may reject an applicant on the basis of their age or interpret a person's body language as negative, even though they are highly skilled.
Many algorithms recruiters use to manage their hiring process have been shown to reproduce and amplify human biases and errors. Researchers are looking at ways to ensure AI recruitment algorithms are as fair as possible, including making approaches more accurate and modeling an equitable workplace environment.
AI recruitment tools should be designed carefully to avoid inadvertently discriminating. Otherwise, these tools may leave many qualified candidates on the cutting room floor.
